Turnwood Bedroom Furniture was founded in Birch Ave, Tauranga, in July 1980 by Colin Meads (not the ex-All Black captain!). Colin had a construction and building background and a passion for making furniture. in its early days, wood turning was a large focus and that gave rise to the name ‘Turnwood’. Turnwood manufactured a multiple range of furniture products and had a customer base of several hundred around new zealand. after nearly two decades in charge, Colin felt it was time to move on and so in 2001 sold the business to Rob and Christine Bellerby.Rob’s business strategy was to evolve Turnwood into a much more specialised bedroom furniture manufacturer. with this evolution in full swing and successfully being carried out, Rob decided he too wanted a change, and this created an opportunity for Steve Allan and his wife Janet to move from Whakatane and the supermarket they owned, to purchase a growing and established furniture company.
Steve and Janet became the proud owners in July 2006. since he has been in control, Steve has been a forerunner for change and progress. he has developed new ideas and systems to make sure that Turnwood solidifies their strong place in the New Zealand market. new products in bedroom furniture, headboards and slat beds have been introduced as well as a new fresher looking customer brochure for retail stores, a new website, a factory upgrade and better ways to look after their customers. steve and the team is constantly thinking of new ways to create better rimu and pine bedroom furniture that people all over new zealand will love. in his opinion, the best days are yet to come and he is busy readying himself and his team for big growth.
